Acampe praemorsa (papilliosa) – the Fragrant Acampe

Acampe praemorsa is a robust, monopodial orchid native to tropical and subtropical Asia. It grows as an epiphyte in seasonally dry forests, developing a stout upright stem and thick, leathery leaves.

Features:

  • 🌏 Origin: Tropical and subtropical Asia, including India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and parts of mainland South-East Asia.
  • 🌸 Flower size and duration: Small flowers, generally around 0.8–1.5 cm across, appear in compact clusters. They are described as long-lasting, although the exact duration varies with growing conditions.
  • 🎨 Flower colour and fragrance: Creamy yellow to yellow flowers are marked with reddish-brown bars or spots, with a pale lip. The clustered blooms have a sweet, hyacinth-like fragrance.
  • 🌿 Growth habit and mature size: A clump-forming, monopodial epiphyte with a stout stem; mature plants are commonly around 20–50 cm tall, excluding flower spikes.
  • 🪴 Plant size: See the current product photo for the plant offered.
  • ☀️ Growing notes: Adapted to warm conditions and bright, filtered light. Provide good air movement, an open, free-draining mount or basket, and regular water while it is actively growing. Keep the roots from staying waterlogged.
  • 📦 Postage: Live plants cannot be posted to Western Australia, the Northern Territory or Tasmania due to quarantine restrictions.

Flower colour, fragrance and flowering performance may vary between plants and growing conditions. The plant supplied will be similar in size and quality to the photos.
